Taxation Without Representation
Published in the Laconia Sun February 19,2008
It's been hundreds of years since some brave people dumped tea in the water to demonstrate how irate they were to be taxed by the British without representation!
For years the selectman political process in Moultonborough has done the same thing, intentionally or unintentionally, by staging Town Meetings in late fall or early winter and not allowing tax payers who are away from the town during that period to have a process to vote with absentee ballots. Most of these tax payers have homes on the lake and PAY MUCH HIGHERTAXES THAN THE RESIDENTS WHO RESIDE FULL TIME IN TOWN AND GET THE MOST IF NOT ALL OF THE BENEFITS OF $ SPENT TO FUND SCHOOL EXPANSION, NEW TOWN BLDGS ,ETC
I'm not necessarily against these expenditures yet DO WANT A VOTE which is impossible unless I leave my Florida property during the winter, fly to NH, to vote personally.
Isn"t it ironic that I can elect officials with an absentee ballot yet have NO SAY in how my tax dollars are spent unless I appear onsite at the Town Hall when the vote is taken
I'm in favor of SB2 that will give all tax payers representation in their TAXATION!
