The sky will not fall
It's crunch time,
It is so frustrating to listen to and read the same old ugly lies and stories put out by fear mongers, especially those in power, to make people fear the change. Fear the loss of what you know and what you are familiar with. It is that fear factor that the powers to be would have you run to the polls with on election day and vote against any change, but especially SB2.
This initiative, while successful in so many NH towns, has stuck fear into the hearts of folks in Moultonboro. But it is nothing to fear. It is simply a way to vote when unable to make it to Town Meeting for whatever reason.
Instead of the usual Town Meeting, there is the deliberative session, which is a form of Town Meeting......
Essentially, everything that happens at Town Meeting will happen as usual with the exception of voting. That will happen at a later date after all of the discussions, debates and amendments have been made. As it is now, there are the select few at current Town Meetings that will change and amend warrant articles from what they were originally intended. This is not just something that happens because of SB2.
It happens because people come out and speak their minds. They speak openly and loudly. But not everyone can do that. Not everyone wants their personal views known by their neighbors or perhaps, their bosses. That is when SB2 allows people to vote in the privacy of a booth without anyone else knowing how they voted.
That's it. No end of rural character. No end of local charm or end of history. The police will still be here to protect us. The fire dept with the EMT's will still be around for emergencies when we need them. And the sky will not fall.
